HHS Extends Public Health Emergency

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra announced on October 15th the extension of the public health emergency (PHE) as a result of COVID-19. The PHE will be extended for another 90-day period beginning on October 18th. Click here for the formal declaration issued by Secretary Becerra.

Colder Weather Could Cause Delta Wave to Linger

Despite a decrease in COVID-19 cases, Former U.S. Food and Drug Administration Director Scott Gottlieb believes the Delta wave could continue into the colder months of the year, with the worst of the surge alleviating during the holiday season. According to Gottlieb, “”You’re starting to see an uptick in cases in the colder parts of the country and, as people are driven indoors without masks on, you’ll start to see cases pick up.” Click here to read more as reported by CNN.

Nearly Half of Industry Operators Expect Higher Margins in Coming Months

A recent survey conducted by the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care’s (NIC) shows 49 percent of respondents believe margins will increase in the next six months. Participants in the survey included senior executives across the long-term care industry. The survey also highlighted increased demand was the primary focus behind the acceleration in move-ins, due to the spread of the Delta COVID-19 variant beginning to wane. This month’s spotlight goes to The Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center in Pinellas County, Florida. The Center works to nurture and strengthen children, youth, adults, families and communities through education, support services and collaborative partnerships to help people improve their lives and achieve self-sufficiency. The Center provides programs and services for families in need of temporary support in these areas: Critical Basic Needs, Family Support Services; Youth Programs and Services; Career Development and Adult Education. CMS Announces Medicare Open Enrollment

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Medicare Open Enrollment period has begun as of October 15, 2021. Individuals with Medicare coverage will be able to submit their selection for coverage options. Click here for the full press release.
